This workshop aims to:
Increase participants' knowledge and understanding of using good fire for forest health and community safety.
Learn how to use good fire to control invasive species, increase native plants
Build community while advocating for best practices in forest health and management
Present volunteer opportunities to work with community members to reduce fire risk.
Promote Biochar as an environmentally beneficial use of wood waste.
We have an all-star lineup of presenters:
Zeke Lunder, pyro-geographer who runs The Lookout and represents Deer Creek Resources, Fire Storm
Ali Meders-Knight, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) Master Practitioner, who runs TEK Chico
Dallas Koller, who runs Butte County's Prescribed Burn Association through the BC Resource Conservation District
Ken Scherer, owner of KOrganics and member of the Biochar Coalition
Steve Feher, Butte County Fire Safe Council and member of the BioChar Coalition
Tabor Teachout, Voice of Biochar and member of the Biochar Coalition
We will also hear from folks from the Butte County Fire Safe Council and Paradise Recreation and Parks District to learn about other local initiatives.
Some of the topics presenters will cover include:
Burn permits, FireWise communities, burn plans, prescribed fire, cultural burning, local resources, community volunteer opportunities, biochar, and the Buffer Parks program.
There will be a hands-on biochar demonstration (which will also help us stay warm).
This event will be outdoors. Please dress appropriately.
